The Case for Collaboration
Running a small charity as a volunteer can be a fulfilling, but lonely place.
Some Facts
There are over 169,000 registered charities in the UK, and countless ‘micro-charities’ that don’t qualify to register with the Charity Commission of England and Wales because their income is so small.
97% of charities in the UK are ‘small’ charities, sharing less than 20% of the money that goes to the charity sector.
A small charity is any UK charitable organisation with an annual income of less than £1 million, yet 70% of UK charities record an annual income of less than £100,000.
That’s over 118,000 registered charities in the UK that survive with limited support, minimal resources and few volunteers!
The Responsibility of Amanah
Consider for a moment, as a small charity, perhaps recently established, all the challenges you may face.
The paperwork and spreadsheets, time management issues, finding volunteers, organising events, raising funds, and managing social media. Then delivering the project, maybe through a partner, the due diligence, monitoring and evaluating, verifying that it reaches its rightful recipients. And finally the feedback reports, sharing media and accountability.
The workload, time commitment and sheer dedication needed to fulfil the Amanah of your donors effectively, can exert a severe strain on careers, relationships and your quality of life.
Working Together
The Islamic Charities Collaborative aims to ease the burdens of running a small charity by being a support mechanism.
Responsibilities may remain, deadlines and objectives stay in place. But with the help of your collaborators, you have more expertise to call on; simple advice, or a proposal template, a plan to co-host an event, accounts support, technical know-how, or maybe just a copy of a policy.
By collaborating and working together, helping and guiding each other effectively, the Islamic Charities Collaborative aims to make the life of every small charity easier, through sharing knowledge and driving efficiency.
Collaborate. Share Knowledge. Be Efficient. Deliver with Confidence.
“Working with the Islamic Charities Collaborative has saved us hundreds of hours of work and helped us achieve more than we ever thought possible.”
